Last Sunday saw our annual Pet Service. A motley crew of dogs and cats joined the congregation, even managing to bark at appropriate points during the service. Shelagh and Meisie the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (featured below) are regulars at St Mark's services. Meisie is also the official mascot for the Pub Quiz team which meets at the The Alex pub on the first Monday of the month.

Ken and Jean Allen, long-standing members of the St Mark's congregation, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary today. They renewed their vows in front of friends and family, and there were a few tears shed by the females in the congregation! Ken and Jean were married on the 26th September 1953 at St Mary's, as at the time, St Mark's was not licensed for weddings. After the service, we celebrated with cake and bubbles, and got to see some of the photos from their special day many years ago. We wish Ken and Jean every good wish for the future.

This week the St Mark's Leadership Group met. The group consists of Clive our Vicar, along with both wardens, deputy wardens, our Pastoral Minister and Youth & Children's Worker. The remit of the group is to:

1.To further the mission of St Mark’s.

2.With the Team Vicar to engage in strategic leadership of St Mark’s.

3.To model to the rest of the congregations the power of close and effective Christian partnership.

4.To support each other within our different ministries.

5.To act as a generator and sounding board of new ideas.

6.To tackle complex or controversial issues within the life of the church.

The group has no legislative powers. We started our meeting this week by sharing positive thoughts and news about St Mark's, including the growing success of our Little Tots Group (now meeting on a Thursday), the growing numbers at our Wednesday lunchtime service and the uptake of the new mass setting.

The focus of the group for the coming months will be the preparation of our Mission Action Plan - our plan for the mission of St Mark's.

St Mark's have recently invested in a new kitchen for the church hall, as the existing kitchen was in urgent need of replacement. The church hall is well used by a wide number of community groups and provides an important source of income for St Mark's. We hope the groups that meet in the hall will enjoy the new facilities.
